Welcome to Qatar Summer
So yes, welcome to summer in Qatar, where even your sunglasses feel like they're going to melt off, and hydration is no longer a suggestion, it's a survival strategy.
Qatar's climate demands respect. Summer, running from June to September, is fierce, temperatures hit 45°C with humidity that soaks your shirt. Life shifts indoors to malls and museums. But here's the secret no one tells you: summer in Qatar has a certain magic to it. Contrary to popular belief, you can still enjoy Qatar during the hot months it often gets even better. There's never a line, and traffic eases up as most residents flee for cooler climates.
Whether you're a first-timer bracing yourself for the heat or a seasoned expat looking for fresh ideas, this guide has everything you need to not just survive, but genuinely enjoy, a Qatar summer.
First: The Rules of Summer Survival
Before anything else, these are non-negotiable:
- Hydrate constantly: Carry water everywhere. Electrolyte drinks are your best friend.
- Shift your schedule: The golden hours are early morning (before 9 AM) and after sunset. Midday is for air conditioning only.
- Outdoor work ban: Qatar officially bans outdoor work between 10 AM and 3 PM from June 1 onwards — and for good reason. Apply that wisdom to your own life, too.
- Sunscreen is not optional: Even a walk from your car to a mall entrance can do damage. SPF 50+ on exposed skin, always.
- Start your car early: Let the AC run for a few minutes before getting in. A car parked in the sun can reach oven-like temperatures inside.
